The tenor Kenneth Tarver, a native of Detroit, studied at Yale University and Oberlin College. He launched his career as part of the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Program and was soon engaged by such major European venues as the Royal Opera House in London, the Berlin Staatsoper, the Bavarian and Vienna Staatsoper companies, and the Dresden Semperoper, as well as by the Aix-en-Provence and Edinburgh Festivals. His artistic focus is on the operas of Mozart and bel canto repertoire, but he has also performed works by Stravinsky and Shchedrin. In the concert hall, Tarver has worked with Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly, Sir Colin Davis, and Zubin Mehta. The recording of Berlioz’s Les Troyens on which he sings received two Grammy Awards. With Teodor Currentzis, he has also recorded Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Don Giovanni.
