In 2009, Hungarian choreographer Eva Duda founded her own company, the Eva Duda Dance Company. Her very first stage production, Lunatika, received the Rudolf Lábán Award, one of Hungary’s highest honors. The Eva Duda Dance Company is known for experimental, contemporary dance theater characterized by intense physical intensity. The company draws on influences from a wide span of styles and genres, including folk dance and circus arts. Its repertoire ranges from smaller-scale works for duos or trios to large interdisciplinary projects featuring actors, performers, and musicians. A central aim of its work is to attract new audiences to contemporary dance while also building bridges to socially disadvantaged communities. Human rights, freedom, and environmental awareness are recurring themes. The company is also committed to educational initiatives, includes a wide variety of training programs in which more than 1,000 students have already participated. The Eva Duda Dance Company has performed in 15 countries and regularly collaborates with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Hungarian Dance University, the National Dance Theatre Budapest, and the Eiffel Art Studios. Its most recent productions include the musical Hair and the dance project Frida, inspired by Frida Kahlo. Eva Duda received the Hungarian Dance Artist’s Association’s Best Choreographer of the Year Award in 2010; in 2018, she was awarded the Honthy Prize as outstanding choreographer of the season; and, in 2025, she was included in Forbes magazine’s “Power Women” list.
