For the launch of an exclusive watch, our partner Carl F. Bucherer came up with a special idea: in cooperation with Lucerne Festival, a new orchestral piece was to be created as a musical counterpoint to the new timepiece.

Carl F. Bucherer x Lucerne Festival

"The idea of discovering, through music, the similarities between an orchestra and a perfectly crafted timepiece has fascinated us at the Festival from the very beginning." says festival director Michael Haefliger.

This joint project is unique; especially because Carl F. Bucherer has commissioned an orchestral piece for the presentation of their new watch “Manero Minute Repeater Symphony”, composed by Lisa Streich, a former Lucerne Festival participant, and performed by members of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

The collaboration celebrates two creative forces that have a lot in common. Not only do Lucerne Festival and Carl F. Bucherer share a hometown, but also a rich history and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

Both our organizations seamlessly blend tradition and innovation. We Both value our independence and are passionate about an open and creative exchange with our aficionados at home in Lucerne and abroad.

The orchestral piece "PERIPHERY"

Lisa Streich, born in 1985 in Norra Råda, Sweden, studied composition and organ in Berlin, Stockholm, Salzburg, Paris and Cologne. In her music, she often deals with mechanical sounds and translates them into poetic and original sonic worlds.

Lisa Streich composed the piece "PERIPHERY", as part of this collaboration, which was first presented to the public in April 2021 at the Watches and Wonders digital watch fair.

Lisa Streich specifically considered the innovations of the new watch, such as the striking mechanism or the three peripheral elements, in her musical composition. For example, the sounds of a violin bow drawn against the length of the strings, breathing noises from the wind instruments and the quirky drone of a buzzing bow combine to express the complexity of the peripheral rotor.

Making-of

In the making-of clip, you can observe how the participating musicians of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra rehearse the piece by Lisa Streich and record it live. A film crew accompanied the recording of the piece and spoke with the composer Lisa Streich and the musicians. In the clip, you learn exciting details about the creation of the piece, about making music and the new watch from Carl F. Bucherer.
