The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA on Tour
After the Summer Festival in Lucerne the tour still lies ahead: the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA regularly hits the road to tour in autumn. The musicians have previously undertaken tours to Rome, Vienna, Madrid, and Paris; to Baden-Baden, Hamburg, London, and New York; and to Ferrara, Moscow, Tokyo, and Beijing. In October 2018 they undertook their second concert tour together with Music Director Riccardo Chailly, which led them to Milan and Shanghai.
Following the conclusion of the 2018 Summer Festival, the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA presented five concerts in Shanghai, from 18 to 22 October. This marked the orchestra’s debut in Shanghai following its tour of Asia in the fall of 2017 with Riccardo Chailly, which took the musicians to the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing. The repertoire for the tour included Stravinsky's The Firebird; Valses nobles et sentimentales, La Valse, the two suites from Daphnis et Chloé, and Boléro by Ravel; and Mozart's Piano Concerto in C minor, K. 491, with Haochen Zhang as the soloist. Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 and Wagner’s Overtures to Rienzi and The flying Dutchman were also part of the tour program, and these works were performed on 14 October at La Scala in Milan, where Music Director Riccardo Chailly has been Artistic Director since 2015.
