Valentina Farcas

Soprano Valentina Farcas was born in Bucharest in 1975. After initially studying piano at the National University of Music in Bucharest, Farcas, both of whose parents were singers at the Bucharest National
Opera, decided to study voice at the Folkwang University in Essen. In 1999, she joined the ensemble of the Meiningen State Theater;
in 2002, she moved to the Komische Oper Berlin. Her international breakthrough came with her debut as Blonde in Mozart’s The
Abduction from the Seraglio at the 2006 Salzburg Festival. Now a freelance singer, Farcas has appeared in Europe, the U. S., Chile, and China in lyric and coloratura roles including Pamina (The Magic Flute) and Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Gilda (Rigoletto), Musetta (La Bohème), and Zerbi­netta (Ariadne auf Naxos); she has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, Kirill Petrenko, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
