Bass Reinhard Dorn first completed a degree in education and then pursued his education in voice. In 1987 he was engaged as a member of the ensemble with the opera company of his native Cologne. Since 1994 he has been a freelance artist, appearing at the Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Dresden, and Hamburg State Operas as well as in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and San Diego. Initially Reinhard Dorn specialized in such basso buffo roles as Mozart’s Osmin and Bartolo, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, Kezal in The Bartered Bride, and Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier. Reinhard Dorn has I the meantime become an interpreter of the serious bass repertoire and is equally in demand for such Wagner Daland, Pogner, and Gurnemanz and Beethoven’s Rocco or Sarastro. In the 2008-09 season he performed Frank in Die Fledermaus at the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam, Don Basilio in Rossini’s Barbier at the Baden-Baden Festpielgaus, and Claudio in Handel’s Agrippina at the Teatro São Carlos in Lisbon.
