The tenor Mingjie Lei, who was born in Hengyang, China, graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York in 2013 and continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he received his diploma. From 2015 to 2017, Lei acquired his first stage experiences as a member of the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. In 2016 he completed the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival, which engaged him the following year for a performance of Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia. Since 2018, Mingjie Lei has been a member of the ensemble at the Stuttgart State Opera, where he has performed Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. In December 2019 he makes his debut at the Zurich Opera House with Rossini’s Il turco in Italia. Mingjie Lei is a winner of the Neue Stimmen Singing Competition (2017) and the ARD Music Competition in Munich (2018).
