Marie Luise Dressen

Mezzo-soprano Marie-Luise Dressen, who hails from Torgau in Saxony, studied at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music in Leipzig. After her first engagement at the Theater Altenburg Gera, she spent five years in the Luzerner Theater ensemble and received the Prix Gala from the Luzerner Theater Club. She has worked as a freelance artist since 2019. She sings the major mezzo-soprano roles in Mozart and Richard Strauss, has appeared at the Opéra national de Paris and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and has collaborated with Christian Thielemann at the Semperoper in Dresden and with Kirill Petrenko on a production of Strauss’s Elektra in Bergen. In 2025, she debuted with the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig under Thomaskantor Andreas Reize; the following year, she appeared at Leipzig Opera as Prince Orlofsky in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. She will return there in the 2026–27 season for a new production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica.
