From an early age, music has been central to Lukas Sternath’s life. Born in Vienna in 2001, he traveled the world as a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, performing on major stages across Europe, North America, and Asia. He received his early piano training from Anna Malikova and Alma Sauer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2025, he completed his studies under Igor Levit and Paul Lewis at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Other important mentors include Till Fellner, Ingolf Wunder, and Sir András Schiff, whose masterclasses he attended. In 2022, Sternath won the International ARD Music Competition and also received seven special prizes, including the Audience Prize and an award for the best interpretation of the commissioned work. He had previously won multiple prizes at the Busoni Competition in Bolzano, the Schubert Piano Competition in Dortmund, and the European Piano Competition in Bremen. In the 2024-25 season, Lucas Sternath was a Rising Star of the European Concert Hall Organisation. He is a BBC New Generation Artist from 2025 through 2027 and, as part of the program, appeared at the Last Night of the Proms in 2025. Sternath has performed with orchestras including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. In the 2025-26 season, he made debuts with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Potsdam Chamber Philharmonic, the Kon­zert­­haus Orchestra Berlin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Since 2025, he has curated his own “Lukas Sternath Cycle” at the Musik­verein in Vienna, comprising recitals, song projects, and chamber music. His solo recital appearances have taken him to the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Prinzregenten­theater in Munich, and Wigmore Hall in London.

Lukas Sternath first appeared at Lucerne Festival in 2024 as a guest at Igor Levit’s Piano Fest, giving a recital as well as a performance in the closing concert.
