Swedish soprano Lisa Larsson began her career as a flutist before studying voice in Basel. She was accepted into the International Opera Studio in Zurich, where early on she had the opportunity to work with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Franz Welser-Möst. In the 1995-96 season, she made her debut under Riccardo Muti as Papagena at La Scala in Milan. Mozart became the center of her work in the opera house, incuding such roles as Zerlina, Susanna, Servilia, Pamina, and Ismene. Beyond these, she performed roles by Handel, Gluck, Beethoven, Donizetti, Mussorgsky, Strauss, and Britten at London’s Covent Garden, the Glyndebourne Festival, Bavarian State Opera, and the Salzburg Easter Festival, where she sang under the baton of Claudio Abbado. As a concert artist, Lisa Larsson has specialized in early music and regularly performs with Ton Koopman, John Eliot Gardiner, and Emmanuelle Haim. She recently sang in the Saint Matthew Passion with Colin Davis and appeared with Trevor Pinnock at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt.
