Vita

The ensemble Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco was founded in the spring of 2016 on the initiative of Cecilia Bartoli at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and is supported by Prince Albert II and his sister Caroline Princess of
Hanover. It comprises top international musicians who are intimately familiar with the tradition of European court music from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Their repertoire ranges from such Baroque composers as Antonio Vivaldi and George Frideric Handel to the operatic works of Gioachino Rossini; they also focus on rarities and rediscovered works. In the year in which they were founded, Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco embarked on their first European tour with Cecilia Bartoli. Since 2017, they have made regular guest appearances at both the Salzburg Whitsun Festival and the Summer Festival. The ensemble has also performed at the Konzerthaus Dortmund; the Concertgebouw Amsterdam; Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Berlin, Paris, and Luxembourg Philharmonies; Vienna’s Musikverein; and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In the 2021-22 season, they toured with Cecilia Bartoli performing a Pergolesi program; created a new production of Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, with which they also made a guest appearance at the Vienna Staatsoper in July; and performed Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Salzburg Whitsun and Summer Festivals. Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco are the resident ensemble of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Their most recent release is Rhapsody, featuring mezzo-soprano Varduhi Abrahamyan.
