Vita

A native of Wels in Upper Austria, baritone Klaus Kuttler initially studied piano, oboe, composition, and song at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz before completing his vocal education with Gerhard Kahry, Walter Berry, and Robert Holl in Vienna. After garnering four special prizes at the Vienna Belvedere Competition, in 1998 he began his career, which has included a permanent engagement until 2005 at the Vienna Volksoper and has also taken him to numerous international stages. Klaus Kuttler has appeared as Papageno at Zurich Opera and Stuttgart State Opera, as Guglielmo and Faninal at the Berlin Komische Oper, and as Figaro (in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia) in Cologne, and he has sung the Strauss operetta
Der lustige Krieg at the Bregenz Festival. He has won especially high acclaim for his interpretation of the role of the broom-maker Peter in Hänsel und Gretel, which he has performed at the Glyndebourne Festival, Hamburg State Opera, Dresden Opera, and at the Berlin Deutsche Oper.
