The alto Kismara Pessatti, who comes from Brazil, originally studied acting and voice in her native city of Curitiba before she took up voice training with Norma Sharp and Julia Varady. She additionally took master classes with Thomas Hampson, Reri Grist, and Francisco Araiza. In 2003 she became part of Zurich Opera’s opera studio and, in 2005, of its ensemble. During the course of her three-year permanent engagement there, she appeared in such operas as Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, and Verdi’s La traviata and Rigoletto, as well as Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier. In the spring of 2013 she participated in the new production of Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth in Zurich. Pessatti’s additional credits include the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Municipal in São Paolo, and the Aalto-Theater in Essen, as well as in Tokyo, Berlin, and London. In the concert hall she has performed with Vladimir Jurowski, Lorin Maazel, Helmuth Rilling, and Markus Stenz.
