Born in 1994, contralto Jasmin Etminan grew up in a German-Persian family and began studying the piano at the age of five. Even as a child, she appeared on the Stuttgart Staatsoper stage, singing the role of the Fourth Bridesmaid in Weber’s Der Freischütz and the Shepherd in Puccini’s Tosca. After taking private voice lessons, she studied with Christiane Libor at the Karlsruhe University of Music, among others, and participated in master classes led by Brigitte Fassbaender, Anna Larsson, Dunja Vejzovic, Renée Morloc, and Melanie Diener. As the first recipient of the Contralto Scholarship, Etminan joined the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe for the 2022–23 season, where she has appeared as Mary in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, the Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, and Erda and Flosshilde in Wagner’s Das Rheingold; most recently, in the summer of 2026, she sang Hippolyta in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
