The Austrian mezzo-soprano Ida Aldrian studied with Leopold Spitzer, Karlheinz Hanser, and Marjana Lipovšek at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She took part in master classes with Ann Murray, Bernarda Fink, Thomas Hampson, and Brigitte Fassbaender, among others. After starting out at the Hamburg Staatsoper Studio and Nuremberg Opera, she is now engaged by the Hamburg Staatsoper, where she has performed such roles as Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff, and Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Guest appearances have taken Ida Aldrian to Vienna, Salzburg, Linz, Amsterdam, Cologne, the Styriarte in Graz, and the Handel Festival in Halle, where she sang the title role in Ariodante. In the concert hall, she has appeared in Bach’s Mass in B minor and Passions, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, Beethoven’s Ninth, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Mahler’s Third and in recitals.
