Vita

The soprano Fanie Antonelou, a native of Athens, studied at the Stuttgart Academy of Music with Dunja Vejzović and Ulrike Sonntag as well as with Cornelis Witthoefft (lieder performance). She continued her studies at the Opera School in Stuttgart and in the Department of Early Music at the Trossingen Academy of Music. In 2005 she took first prize at the International Maria Callas Competition in Athens in the Oratorio/Lied category; she was also a prizewinner at the Mendelssohn Prize Competition in Frankfurt (2008 and 2009). Credits include engagements at the opera houses in Perm, Athens, and Stuttgart, as well as at the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad. In the concert hall, she has appeared at the Berlin Philharmonie, Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, the Megaron in Athens, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She sang the role of Susanna in Teodor Currentzis’ Figaro recording, which received an Echo Klassik award.
