The Greek baritone Dimitris Tiliakos, who was born on the island of Rhodes, initially studied viola before completing his vocal training at the Athens Conservatory. As winner of the Maria Callas Prize, he received a scholarship to continue his studies with Daphne Evangelatos at the Munich Academy of Music. In 1997 he made his stage debut as Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Prinzregententheater in Munich and was awarded the Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender Prize. After several years as part of the Nuremberg Theater ensemble, he has worked as a freelance artist since 2004 and has made guest appearances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Opéra national de Paris, Zurich Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. He can also be heard as Don Giovanni on Teodor Currentzis’s recording of Mozart’s opera.
