Diego Vásquez was born in Washington, D.C., and, after receiving his bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College (in music and dance), studied clarinet with Charles Neidich at Mannes College/The New School for Music in New York, which awarded him the George and Elizabeth Gregory Award for Excellence. At present, he is continuing his education with Ayako Oshima at the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut, where he is also writing his doctoral thesis on Richard Wagner with Ira Braus. Vás-quez is principal clarinet at the Berkshire Opera Festival and has guest performed with the Norwalk Symphony, the Hartford Opera Theatre, the New Britain Symphony, the Ensemble Mise-en, and American Lyric Theatre. He also acquired important experience from the Stockhausen seminars in Kürten and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY, where he collaborated with Alan Gilbert, Susanna Mälkki, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Matthias Pintscher.
