British conductor Clement Power was born in 1980 in London and received degrees from Cambridge and from the Royal College of Music in London. He also acquired formative experiences as assistant conductor with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2005-06) and with the Ensemble intercontemporain (2006-08) and continues to maintain a close relationship as guest conductor with both ensembles. Powers has a special interest in contemporary music and has presided over nearly 50 world premieres, including that of Hèctor Parras’ opera Hypermusic Prologue, which he introduced in 2009 at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; he also recorded this work with the Ensemble intercontemporain. In addition he regularly conducts such new-music groups as the Neue Klangforum Wien and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and has been invited to perform at such festivals as the Musikprotokoll at the steierischer herbst, IRCAM’s Agora Festival in Paris, the Ars Musica in Brussels, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Sacrum Profanum Festival in Cracow, and the Rainy Days Festival in the Philharmonie Luxembourg. He has also appeared with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, the Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne, and the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya. In the fall of 2012, Power will join the Klangforum Wien to open the Wien Modern Festival. The coming season moreover brings his debuts with such ensembles as the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra in Finland, the Geneva-based Ensemble Contrechamps, and the musikFabrik in Cologne.
