The soprano Christina Gansch, who was born in 1990 in St. Pölten, Austria, studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Royal Academy of Music in London and won the Kathleen Ferrier Award in 2014. In 2013 she collaborated with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Mozart’s Figaro, playing the role of Barbarina. She launched her career at the Hamburg State Opera, where she performed Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, and Gretchen in Schumann’s Faust-Szenen. She has appeared as Servilia in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the Salzburg Festival, as Debussy’s Mélisande at the Glyndebourne Festival, as the Forest Bird in Wagner’s Siegfried at the Berlin Staatsoper, as Naiad in Strauss’s Ariadne at Milan’s La Scala, and as Dorinda in Handel’s Orlando at San Francisco Opera. In the 2019-20 season, Christina Gansch will make her debut at the Bavarian Staatsoper as Gretel in Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera.
