The baritone Alessandro Corbelli, who is a native of Turin, was trained by Giuseppe Valdengo and Claude Thiolas and made his stage debut in 1973. For 30 years he has been a regular guest at such leading theaters as La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna Staatsoper, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Salzburg Festival. He is especially renowned for his portrayals of roles in the bel canto repertoire and for his Mozart interpretations, in which his comic talent also comes to the fore. In the 2017-18 season, he appeared as Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Chicago Lyric Opera, as Fra Melitone in Verdi’s La forza del destino at Dutch National Opera, and as Geronio in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Bavarian Staatsoper. Corbelli has received many awards, including the Premio Abbiati of the Italian Association of Critics and the Rossini d’oro.
