For the 2026 Summer Festival, an immersive sound installation will be created on Europaplatz, directly in front of the KKL Lucerne – a “sound oasis” that brings nature and music into dialogue. At its heart are excerpts from four works with a strong connection to nature, accessible via QR codes within the installation. Developed in collaboration with Pro Natura Lucerne, these pieces are explored and presented from both musical and environmental perspectives.
The selection of the four listening excerpts is deliberately participatory: Lucerne Festival and Pro Natura Lucerne have curated a range of suitable musical works related to nature. However, it is school classes from the Lucerne region who will make the final choice. As part of the educational workshop “Dream Oasis: The Listening Expedition”, they will select their favourites online in advance, actively shaping the content of the installation.
The result is a public space for listening, pausing, and discovery—bringing together different perspectives on nature and music.
Further information will follow in July.
Accompanying the installation, the educational project “Dream Oasis: The Listening Expedition” will take place in August and September for primary school classes (grades 3 to 6). In an interactive on-site workshop focused on listening and perception, children engage deeply with the four selected musical excerpts. They listen attentively, compare their impressions, and “translate” their experiences using a variety of materials.
As participating classes help decide in advance which pieces will be featured in the “Dream Oasis,” the project becomes more than a learning experience, it is co-created by children themselves, opening up new ways of engaging with both classical music and the natural world.
