The Baltimore-born mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn began her career in the opera studio of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. She became internationally known as Amneris in Verdi’s Aida, Eboli in Don Carlo, and Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera. For eight years, Tichina Vaughn was an ensemble member at the Stuttgart Staatsoper, which awarded her the title of Kammersängerin in 2006. From 2010 to 2018, she was a principal artist with the Dresden Semperoper. She has made guest appearances at the Hamburg Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, the Arena di Verona, the Dutch and Hungarian National Operas, the Bregenz Festival, Milan’s La Scala, and English National Opera. Last season, she appeared in Strauss’s Elektra at the Metropolitan Opera and sang Emelda Griffith in Blanchard’s Champion at Boston Lyric Opera. Vaughn also devotes herself to crossover repertoire and performs as a jazz and gospel singer.
