Vita

The American soprano Talise Trevigne studied at the Manhattan School of Music and made her operatic debut while still in training, singing Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La traviata and Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni under the direction of Julius Rudel at the Aspen Music Festival. She first came to prominence in Europe with the world premieres of Errollyn Wallen’s The Silent Twins at Almeida Opera and Judith Weir’s Armida. In 2007, she received the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award for her role portrayal of Violetta Valéry in Graham Vick’s Traviata production for Birmingham Opera. She also received great acclaim as The Beloved in the world premiere of Liza Lim’s The Navigator at the Melbourne International Festival, directed by Barrie Kosky, and in subsequent performances in Moscow and Paris. One of Talise Trevigne’s signature roles is Bess in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, but her repertoire also includes such roles as Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, which she sang at Theater Basel, Mimì in La Bohème, Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Jemmy in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, Nedda in Leoncavallo’s I pagliacci, and Julie in Jerome Kern’s Show Boat. She regularly collaborates with Jake Heggie, whose song cycle Pieces of 9/11 she premiered at Houston Grand Opera, where she also appeared as Clara in Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Her CD At the Statue of Venus, featuring works by Heggie and Glen Roven, reached the top of the U.S. record charts, and her recording of Christopher Rouse’s Kabir Padavali was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2016. Talise Trevigne has previously collaborated with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla on a series of performances of Michael Tippett’s A Child of Our Time in the UK and Germany. She has also appeared in the concert hall in Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne, Mahler’s Second and Fourth Symphonies, Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard, Strauss’s Four Last Songs, and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
