The baritone Nicola Alaimo studied in his native Palermo, training with teachers including his uncle, Simone Alaimo; at the age of just 19, he won the Concorso Giuseppe di Stefano. He gained early attention at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro but soon expanded his repertoire beyond bel canto roles. Today, he also performs such parts as Mozart’s Don Giovanni; Verdi’s Count di Luna in Il trovatore, Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Rigoletto, and Falstaff; Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi; and Sancho Panza in Massenet’s Don Quichotte. Alaimo appears at leading opera houses worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Bavarian Staatsoper, the Opéra national de Paris, and the Royal Opera House in London. He has collaborated with conductors including Daniele Gatti, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, and Jean-Christophe Spinosi. In 2016, Nicola Alaimo was awarded the Premio Abbiati by the Italian Music Critics’ Association.
