Trumpeter Michael Sachs studied at the University of California in his native city of Los Angeles, completing his education at the Juilliard School in New York. Following his first engagement with the Houston Symphony, he joined the Cleveland Orchestra as principal trumpet in 1988. In that position his performances as soloist have included the world premiere of John Williams’s Concerto for Trumpet and the American premiere of Hans Werner Henze’s Requiem for Piano, Trumpet, and Chamber Orchestra. In addition, as guest soloist he has appeared with many American symphony orchestras and ensembles. Sachs teaches at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he is chairman of the brass division and head of the trumpet department. He has also been involved in developing the Artisan line of Bach Stradivarius trumpets.
