André Pousaz, who was born in 1983 in Visp, began devoting himself at the age of nine to the double bass. Along with his classical training he studied the electric bass with Gilbert “Speedy” Jossen, ultimately enrolling in a program in the jazz department of the Lucerne University of Music, from which he graduated with distinction with a degree in performance. His mentors were Heiri Känzig, Wolfgang Zwiauer, and Herbie Kopf. In 2006 he won the Advancement Award of the Friedl Wald Foundation. André Pousaz has concertized across Europe, Russia, Bolivia, Colombia, China, Japan, and South Korea, collaborating with such jazz and pop greats as Christy Doran, Daniel Humair, Tobias Prei-sig, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Stefan Rusconi, Julian Sartorius, Nils Althaus, Freda Goodlett, and Heidi Happy. He is a member of the Swiss Army Big Band and the Swiss Jazz Orchestra.
