The mezzo-soprano Katie Bray studied with Elizabeth Ritchie and Iain Ledingham at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she also graduated from the opera class and completed her training in 2012 with the Principal’s Prize; in addition she won the Richard Lewis Singing Competition. On the opera stage she has performed such roles as Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther at the Grimeborn Festival, Emma in Offenbach’s Vert-Vert at the Garsington Opera, Lazuli in Chabrier’s L’Étoile at New Sussex Opera, and Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring at Opera North in Leeds. In the current season she made her debut at English National Opera in Joanna Lee’s The Way Back Home. As a lieder performer Bray has appeared at London’s Wigmore Hall, the City of London Festival, and the Oxford Lieder Festival. She sings in a recording of Zemlinsky’s Maeterlinck Songs under Trevor Pinnock.
