Australian tenor Jacob Lawrence began his musical career as a boy soprano in his father’s choir at the Scots’ Church in Melbourne. He then continued his vocal studies, which he had pursued at the Melbourne Conservatory, in Europe with Gerd Türk at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis starting in from 2016. In 2020, he was a prize winner at the Innsbruck Early Music Festival’s Cesti Competition and the Bovicelli Competition. In 2019, Lawrence sang the title role in Monteverdi’s L'Orfeo at the Trigonale Alte Musik, at the Gare du Nord in Basel, and in Schwetzingen; he has performed in Haydn’s Armida as well as in Monteverdi’s Ulisse at Pinchgut Opera and has sung Purcell’s Aeneas with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic. He is also a member of Vox Luminis, Profeti della Quinta, and Le Miroir de Musique; additional credits include the Huelgas Ensemble, La Cetra, Voces Suaves, the Göttingen Baroque Orchestra, and the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra.
