Soprano Irina Udalova, who comes from Nikolayevsk-on-Amur, finished her voice studies at the Kishinev Academy of Arts in 1978. After beginning her career at Ashgebat Opera (in Turkmenistan), she was engaged in 1985 by the Bolshoi Theater. There she has regularly appeared in works of Russian music theater, among them Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame, Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel, Dargomyzhsky’s The Stone Guest, Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel, Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, and Desyatnikov’s Rosenthal’s Children. Irina Udalova performs Italian roles as well, including Amelia in Un Ballo, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Cio-Cio-San in Madame Butterfly, and di Nedda in Pagliacci. In 1992 she took part in a production of Borodin’s Prince Igor that was performed jointly by the Bolshoi Theater and the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. Her performance as Larina in Eugene Onegin can also be heard on a CD that was released in 2005.
