The German mezzo-soprano Eva Vogel studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York and at Yale University. She also took lessons with Christa Ludwig and Brigitte Fassbaender. Following engagements at the Cologne Opera Studio and at the operas in Düsseldorf and Innsbruck, Eva Vogel is now a freelance singer. She has made guest appearances at the Royal Opera House in London, Berlin Staatsoper, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg Easter Festival, and Göttingen Handel Festival, as well as in Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, Turin, New York, Tokyo, and Beijing. Her diverse concert repertoire ranges from Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony through Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été, Verdi’s Requiem, and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde to such rarities as Georg Benda’s melodrama Medea and the oratorio Weissagung und Erfüllung by the Swiss composer Hans Huber, which she has performed under Duncan Ward in Basel.
