The German mezzo-soprano Eva Vogel studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York and at Yale University in New Haven; in addition, she took private lessons with Christa Ludwig and Brigitte Fassbaender. She began her career at the opera studio in Cologne before winning permanent engagements at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. There she developed a repertoire that ranges from Baroque opera through Gluck’s Orpheus and Mozart’s Cherubino to Bizet’s Carmen and Octavian in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier. Vogel’s credits also include the Wiesbaden and Nuremberg Staatstheater companies, the Bremen Theater, and the Royal Opera House in London. She has performed in the Ring productions with the Berlin Philharmonic under Simon Rattle in Aix-en-Provence and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. She has additionally worked with John Eliot Gardiner, Pietari Inkinen, Edo de Waart, and Ingo Metzmacher.
