Vita

Born in 1968 in Illingen, Saarland, Dirk Rothbrust has established himself as a percussionist in demand worldwide. From 1986 to 1994, he studied in Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe with Franz Lang and Isao Nakamura. He has been a member of the Schlagquartett Köln since 1995, played in the Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin from 2001 to 2008, and has been a member of the Ensemble Musikfabrik since 2005. Whether as part of ensembles or as a soloist, Dirk Rothbrust performs at all of the important European festivals for contemporary music and collaborates with the leading composers and performers of our time, among them Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Martha Argerich, and Maurizio Pollini; the saxophonist Peter Brötzmann; and the electronic duo Mouse on Mars. As a soloist, Dirk Rothbrust has given the world premieres of such compositions as void by Rebecca Saunders, Beat Furrer’s Xenos III, and Wolfgang Mitterer's rasch, which — like many other works — were written especially for him.
