Vita

Percussionist Daniel Ciampolini is a native of Nice. His parents were cabaret artists and thus allowed their son to pursue two different tracks in his education: He studied chanson and jazz but also received a diploma in percussion at the Paris Conservatoire and then specialized in vibraphone at the Berklee College of Music. Pierre Boulez appointed him at the age of 19 to the Ensemble intercontemporain, where he played in the world premieres of Sur Incises and Répons under Boulez and also recorded those works. As a chamber musician Ciampolini collaborates with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Maurizio Pollini, among others; he has also performed with Charles Aznavour and Michel Legrand and has played jazz with Michel Portal and Antoine Hervé. Since 2001 Ciampolini has been a freelance artist. Along with concert appearances he has composed several film scores since then; he also teaches at the Paris Conservatoire and gives master classes in various countries.
