Yulianna Avdeeva

The pianist Yulianna Avdeeva, who was born in 1985 in Moscow, began learning piano at the age of five at the Gnessin Academy of Music in her native city. She later studied there with Vladimir Tropp before transferring to the Zurich Hochschule der Künste, where she took the master class led by Konstantin Scherbakov. She also gained significant inspiration from Dmitri Bashkirov, William Grant Naboré, and Fou Ts’ong at the International Piano Academy at Lake Como. In 2006 and 2007, she was among the prize winners at the Concours de Genève and the Paderewski Competition, after which she won the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2010. Yulianna Avdeeva has since then concertized all over the world, having performed with the London and Royal Stockholm Philharmonics; the Pittsburgh, Montreal, and São Paulo Symphonies; the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin; and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. She has given recitals at the Rheingau Music Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, Wigmore Hall in London, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, and the Ruhr and La Roque d’Anthéron Piano Festivals. She made her Salzburg Festival debut in the summer of 2017 with a Mozart matinee. During the 2017-18 season, Yulianna Avdeeva’s performance calendar includes her debuts with the Bamberg Symphony and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra; she will additionally undertake a European tour with the violinist Julia Fischer, performing in Baden-Baden, Warsaw, Prague, Alicante, and Bilbao. She has recorded the Chopin piano concertos with the Orchestra of the 18th Century under Frans Brüggen, as well as works by Schubert, Mozart, Liszt, and Prokofiev. In October 2017 she released a recording of works by Johann Sebastian Bach.

LUCERNE FESTIVAL debut on 21 August 2016 playing Chopin’s First Piano Concerto with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Anu Tali.
