Vita

Double bassist Alois Posch, a native of Styria in Austria, was accepted to the Graz College of Music at the age of 15. Three years later, in 1977, he auditioned for the Vienna Staatsoper and was soon appointed principal bassist with the Vienna Philharmonic, where he remained until 2008. In addition he became involved early on as an educator: After a four-year guest professorship at the Salzburg Mozarteum he was appointed full professor of double bass at the University of Music in Vienna in 1993. Posch is a passionate chamber musician and regularly appears at prestigious international festivals; since 2003 he has been principal double bassist of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA. His artistic work has been documented on numerous recordings. He plays an instrument made by Johann Joseph Stadlmann in 1779.
