General information

In Lucerne’s Hofkirche you can immerse yourself not only in music but also in the cozy’s history. The parish of St. Leodegar is the oldest in the city. The historical traces go back until the 8th century, when a monastery was founded on the site of the present-day Hofkirche. Among the opulent décor and interior features of this parish basilica, which was built between 1634 and 1645 (the mighty towers date from the preceding Gothic-era building) are the famous Hoforgel of 1650: Featuring nearly 6,000 pipes (the largest measures 10 meter and weights 380 kilograms), it long ranked as the largest organ in Europe.
