Vita

The Tembembe Ensamble Continuo was founded in 1995 by Enrique Barona, Eloy Cruz, and Leopoldo Novoa to explore the connections between music of the Spanish Baroque and the traditional music of Mexico and Latin America. It originated from a research project at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. In its concerts, the Ensemble combines instrumental music, dance, and singing and has performed throughout Mexico and in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. It has also been invited to numerous festivals, including those in Feldkirch, Austria; Gijón, Spain; Bogotá, Colombia; and the Hi! Seoul Festival in South Korea. Among the Ensemble’s artistic partners are the singer Ada Coronel, the dancer Donají Esparza, the violinist Ulises Martínez, the gambist Hille Perl, the guitarist Steve Player, and the lutenist Lee Santana. It also enjoys a close collaboration with Jordi Savall and Hespèrion XXI.
