Vita

Born in Berlin, Tanja Christ studied viola with Hatto Beyerle in Vienna and Hanover and during this time received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. In 1992, she won the German Music Council Competition as well as the Robert Schumann House Award in Bonn and also received a scholarship from the Märkische Kulturkonferenz. In 1993, Tanja Christ became one of the first female musicians to join the Berlin Philharmonic under Claudio Abbado; she was a member of the orchestra until 1999. She then focused on her work as a chamber musician and soloist. For many years she was a member of the Berlin Baroque Soloists, with whom she concentrated on 17th- and 18th-century repertoire, recorded numerous CDs, and performed all over the world. Tanja Christ has been playing in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra since 2003, the year of its founding, and has performed in numerous chamber concerts in connection with the Festival’s programs.
