Stefan Heyne, who was born in 1965 in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, studied scenography at the Berlin Academy of Arts, where he was a student of Volker Pfüller. He was a founding member of the Freie Kammerspiele in Magdeburg, the first independent theater to emerge in the former GDR after the fall of the Wall. Through productions with Dimiter Gotscheff, Karoline Gruber, Andreas Kriegenburg, Vera Nemirova, and Hermann Schein, his work has been seen at the Staatsoper and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and the Deutsches Theater, the Volksbühne, and the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. His design for the Austrian premiere of Michel Houellebecq’s The Elementary Particles garnered Heyne a nomination for the Nestroy Prize in 2009. Since 2006 he has taught stage design at the Technische Universität Berlin. His photographic work has been exhibited in numerous shows and was published in 2008 in the illustrated book THE NOISE.
