The Dutch double bassist Rick Stotijn studied in Amsterdam with his father Peter Stotijn and with Božo Paradžik at the Conservatory in Freiburg im Breisgau. Following an engagement with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, he was appointed principal bass of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra; he additionally plays in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as well as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and has made guest appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Orchestra Mozart. As a chamber musician, Rick Stotijn has collaborated with Janine Jansen, Vilde Frang,
and Tabea Zimmermann; pianists Julius Drake and Lars Vogt; and his sister, the mezzosoprano Christianne Stotijn. He is devoted to contemporary music and has premiered works by such composers as Michel van der Aa, Louis Andriessen, and Ned Rorem. Since 2015, he has taught at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
