Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov began his career at the National Theater in Kiev. After winning second prize at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Competition in 2007, he was engaged by numerous renowned companies. His international breakthrough came in 2013 when he made his debut at London’s Royal Opera House as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème. Since then, Popov has also appeared at the Bavarian, Dresden, and Vienna Staatsoper companies; the Opéra national de Paris; the Metropolitan Opera in New York; and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. In the 2018-19 season he is performing in Cologne as the Prince in Dvořák’s Rusalka, in Dresden as Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca, and in Paris as Vaudémont in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta. Popov has worked with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Jurowski, Kent Nagano, Antonio Pappano, and Tugan Sokhiev. He has recorded Rachmaninoff’s The Bells with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic.
