Mark Haeldermans, who was born in 1968 in the Belgian city of Maaseik, studied percussion and timpani with Pieter Jansen, Werner Otten, and Ruud Wiener at the Maastricht Conservatory. He honed his skills through private studies with Georg Breier in Cologne. In 1993 he began his first engagement as percussionist with a special assignment to timpani with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra in Hilversum, and in 2005 he moved to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Radio Chamber Philharmonic, taking up the same position. Haeldermans is additionally a member of the Amsterdam Percussion Group, a percussion quartet that is especially devoted to contemporary music, giving concerts throughout Europe and in the United States and Taiwan. He has also played regularly with the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA since its founding in 2003.
