The British baritone Hugo Herman-Wilson initially studied theology at King’s College, Cambridge, before turning to singing and undertaking vocal training at the Royal College of Music in London. He was a Britten-Pears Young Artist from 2017 to 2019 and received the Audience Trophy at the Somerset Song Prize. As part of the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio, he performed the roles of Peter Quince in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Polifemo in Handel’s Acis and Galatea. He has sung Ernest Jedermann in David Blake’s and Keith Warner’s Scoring a Century at British Youth Opera and Marcello and Scarpia, respectively, in Puccini’s La Bohème and Tosca at Opera Undone. Hugo Herman-Wilson is also passionate about contemporary music and has performed works by Birtwistle and Chandler in Snape Maltings, as well as songs by Jörg Widmann, Alban Berg, and Sebastian Black at the Smorgaschord Festival.
