Dirk Wucherpfennig, who was born in 1969, received his diploma from the College for Music and Performing Arts in his native Hamburg, where he studied percussion and timpani with Joachim Winkler (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and David Searcy (La Scala in Milan); he also received private instruction from Holger Garbs, former principal percussionist of the NDR Symphony Orchestra. After his first experiences performing with the Hamburg Staatsoper and the Orchestral Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Wucher-pfennig was appointed percussionist with the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin in 1992. He has additionally performed with the ensembles of North German and Bavarian Radio, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staats-kapelle and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Wucherpfennig has been a member of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA’s percussion group since 2003.
