Vita

Born in 1964 in Vienna, Christian Frohn began studying violin with Franz Samohyl and Klaus Maetzl in 1980 at the Musikhochschule. In 1986 he launched his professional career as first violist with the ORF Symphony Orchestra and was engaged the following year with the State Opera Orchestra. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Vienna Philharmonic; in 1997 he transferred to the position of solo viola, which he has been performing since then. Solo engagements have taken Christian Frohn to Germany, France, Bosnia, and Switzerland, as well as to Japan, India, and the United States. As a chamber musician he performs with the  Philharmonia Nonet, the Zalodek Ensemble, the Vienna String Soloists, und the Gemini Piano Quartet. Christian Frohn is also active as an educator and teaches at music schools in India and in Sardinia. He is a tutor with the Young Bundesländer Philharmonic, the Vienna Youth Orchestra, and the International Music Forum in Trenta, Slovenia. Since 2000 he has prepared rehearsals at the Vienna State Opera.
