Born in Strasbourg in 1972, Béatrice Muthelet initially studied violin at the Conservatoire de Versailles and with Chaim Taub in Tel Aviv but then decided to switch to viola and continued her training with Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music. After graduating from the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, she was appointed a member of this elite orchestra. She has played principal viola with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since 2001, and, in addition, she has performed every summer since 2003 with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Béatrice Muthelet is a co-founder of the Quatuor Capuçon with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon; her other chamber music partners include Martha Argerich, Lars Vogt, Hélène Grimaud, Isabelle Faust, Viktoria Mullova, Christian Tetzlaff, and Steven Isserlis. She also devotes herself intensively to social projects, especially for the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR.
