The Austrian mezzo-soprano Ida Aldrian studied with Leopold Spitzer, Karlheinz Hanser, and Marjana Lipovšek at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She attended master classes with such figures as Ann Murray, Bernarda Fink, Thomas Hampson, and Brigitte Fassbaender. After starting her career as part of the Hamburg Opera Studio and at Nuremberg Opera, she is now engaged at Hamburg Staatsoper, where she performs such roles as Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, the Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff. Guest engagements have taken her to Vienna, Salzburg, Linz, Amsterdam, and Cologne; to the Styriarte in Graz; and to the 2022 Handel Festival in Halle for the title role from Ariodante. As a dedicated concert singer, she has appeared in Bach’s B minor Mass and Passions, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, Beethoven’s Ninth, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Mahler’s Third, as well as in recitals.
