The baritone Andrei Bondarenko, who was born in 1987 in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ukraine, completed his vocal training at the National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music and the Conservatory in Kiev and came to attention with his successes at such competitions as BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and New Ukrainian Voices. He acquired formative experiences from the Young Singers Project of the Salzburg Festival, where he subsequently appeared in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol. In 2013 he took on the title role in the Russian premiere of Britten’s Billy Budd in St. Petersburg. Bondarenko has also performed at the Royal Opera House in London; the Mariinsky Theater; and the opera houses of Zurich, Madrid, Perm, Cologne, and Palm Beach (where he made his role debut last season as Don Giovanni), working with Valery Gergiev, Teodor Currentzis, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Ivor Bolton.
