Waltzes and wild revels, ecstasy and elegance: in the summer of 2018, the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA and Music Director Riccardo Chailly thrilled the audience with an all-Ravel evening. Valses nobles et sentimentales and La Valse began the program, played one after the other by Chailly to highlight the inner connections between these two remarkable treatments of the waltz. Chailly and the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA then proceeded to light up a firework of orchestral colors with Ravel’s ballet music to the ancient love story Daphnis et Chloé and with the rhythmically hypnotic Boléro.
